Kristy H., a 37-year-old patient who came to us for a shoulder MRI
"I had a serious rotator cuff tear that went undiagnosed for so long that I was crying myself to sleep at night. I felt so hopeless that I wasn't sure I could go on. Because of multiple orthopedic surgeons who said I did not have a tear at all, just inflammation, I had continued working my very physically demanding job and was even pushing myself hard in physical therapy, making it worse and worse and resulting in radiating pain and severe tension from my neck to my ankle.
I finally asked for an MRI and Dr. David noted a very serious tear (two of them, in fact). With this report in hand, I returned to the surgeons but they said that Dr. David was wrong, it was only inflammation (and that tears and inflammation look similar on MRI). I finally went to another orthopedic surgeon. He performed surgery and found the tears just as Dr. David had described.
It turns out that I have EDS (Ehlers- Danlos Syndrome), a genetic disorder that makes my tendons and ligaments super easy to tear due to faulty collagen.
The first surgeons never considered a condition like EDS or that I could have injured myself at work, as a massage therapist, from repetitive motions and lifting. Time and time again they saw a skinny girl who didn't play sports and let their opinions get in the way of plain facts. Dr. David didn't let personal opinions skew his findings.
After the original surgery, I had a reaction to the sutures and required two more surgeries. I have needed an MRI many times throughout the process and each time I requested that Dr. David read the scan, knowing that when he sees something, I can count on it being there.
It's been such a great relief to know that I can trust my radiologist to validate my experience and provide unbiased facts even when many surgeons were unable to do so. Thank you Dr. David."
Maureen M., a 70-year old patient who came to us for a spine MRI
"I began to lose the ability to urinate at night. Concurrently, I experienced a number of falls while running that same spring. I sought medical attention with a urologist and an orthopedic spine specialist. The spine specialist felt that the reason for the falls could be lumbar related. He wrote an order for me to have an MRI of the lumbar region. In the meantime, the urologist was unable to identify the issue for the inability to urinate. As a result, I began self-catheterizations at night.
Dr. David looked at the MRI pictures and saw an abnormality in the thoracic spine. Dr. David called me to say that he had talked to the spine specialist, and asked him to order an MRI of my thoracic spine.
The thoracic spine MRI showed the cause of my problem, an abnormality of the blood vessels around my spinal cord called an Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM). Subsequently, I went to Johns Hopkins to have surgery to correct the AVM. The doctors in Baltimore asked who had read my lumbar MRI, because the abnormality was hard to see. If Dr. David had not seen that abnormality, I might still not know what was wrong. I am so grateful to him for being instrumental in diagnosing my AVM."
"Being a rheumatologist I greatly rely on Dr. David's expertise and his radiology reports. He is excellent in interpreting the various nuances of musculoskeletal radiology. While mentioning a wide range of differential diagnosis he can usually be quite specific about the actual diagnosis. My patients are also able to schedule imaging studies at his facility with ease. He is always easily accessible and a great resource to have in my practice."
Dr. Navera Ahmed, M.D.
"I send my patients to Novant Health Imaging and Dr. David because I want the most accurate information possible. The highest quality MRI and MRI interpretation allows me to make the best treatment decisions for my patients. I am continually amazed at how spot on his MRI readings are when I take a patient to surgery. He is able to tell the size and location of a rotator cuff tear or labral tear with astounding precision. This is why I continue to send my patients to him."
Dr. Ben Kittredge, IV, M.D.
"Dr. David has elevated the caliber of MRI interpretation in the Northern Virginia area in the time that he has been here. I have had the privilege of relying on his expertise in musculoskeletal anatomy while treating my patients in all aspects of orthopedics & sports medicine. His diagnoses are accurate. Novant Health Imaging has been very patient friendly, with timely appointments and prompt reports. When I personally needed MRI imaging this year, I went to Novant Health Imaging & specifically asked for Dr. David to read my MRI studies."
Dr. Ramesh Chandra M.D., F.A.C.S.
Director, Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine
"I have consulted with Dr. David on hundreds of patients over the past five years and have found his work exemplary. I am always impressed with his commitment to personally review images with me, ensuring the most accurate diagnosis possible for our patients. I can recall numerous examples of his dedication to patients, from asking about a patient’s case months after reviewing the images, to calling me back days after discussing a case to point out an additional finding. He is compassionate and caring, easily accessible, and extremely accurate. His reports are simple and offer conclusive diagnoses, rather than general potential diagnoses. He is the only person that I trust for my own family’s treatment and feel incredibly fortunate to have his expertise available to my patients."
Jay Ryan, DPM, FACFAS

His MRI readings are very specific and do not include a vague list of possible differential diagnoses. His makes a great effort to assure his interpretations are clinically relevant and is always very accessible for questions. The wonderful service Dr. David provides to my patients far exceeds what is usually found elsewhere."
